A late Victorian diamond pendant/brooch, the openwork foliate cartouche centred with a trio of cushion-shaped old-cut diamonds in pinched collet settings, framed by channels of smaller similarly set old and single-cut diamonds, gold and silver mounted, with detachable diamond set pendant bale and detachable brooch fitting, principal diamond weight approximately 0.75ct, remaining total diamond weight approximately 1.50ct, total length 3.5cm
The principal diamonds are well matched, bright and lively, with some areas of facet edge abrasion and occasional small surface nicks/minor chips when viewed under magnification. Estimated I to K colour and VS2 to SI1 clarity, assessed mounted. Principal diamond dimensions approximately 5.4mm length x 5.7mm width x 3.2mm depth. To the centre, the two outer diamonds measure approximately 4.5mm length x 3.9mm width x 3.3mm depth and 4.7mm length x 3.9mm width x 3.2mm depth respectively. Bordering diamonds graduate from approximately 0.01ct to 0.04ct in size and have variable clarity, some stones with chips, fractures and mineral inclusions, but give an overall lively appearance. The mount has surface wear and tarnishing commensurate for age and use, with patchy thinning to the edges of the settings. Metal standards are untested. The brooch clasp is a little stiff but functioning. Width of cartouche approx. 2.05cm. Gross weight approx. 6.5gm.
