Cotswold School

Cotswold School Chest of drawers, similar to designs by Ernest Gimson oak, two short over three long graduated drawers shaped handles, stepped feet exposed joints 90cm high, 98cm across, 49cm deep. Provenance: Rachel Ward (nee Rothenstein) and Alan Ward; thence by family descent. Literature: Cheltenham Museum & Art Gallery, Gimson & Barnsley Catalogue, number 1941-222-491 for an original design for a similar chest. Rachel Rothenstein was daughter of Sir William Rothenstein, and brother to Michael Rothenstein. The Rothenstein family had close connections to the Cotswold School of Artists and commissioned numerous pieces.
