late 18th/19th Century, with a paper dial and brass bezel, bearing an old typed label verso 'This compass formerly belonged to LORD NELSON. And was given to his pilot Mackenzie, when the more improved ones came out. It was purchased from his grandson in 1896. W. H Nicholson Coll' , 22.8cm diameter
